Anesthesia Technicians fulfill a vital role and should be considered
as integral members of the Anesthesia Care Team.
Reaching and maintain national certification through the ASATT should be the absolute minimum requirement for anybody providing Anesthesia Technical Services. This fully online program is designed to complement your on-the-job training and assist you in your preparation for national certification.
The Anesthesia Technical Services Program at North Seattle Community College consists of six courses. Each course is eleven weeks long and covers topics specifically designed for Anesthesia Technical Service Providers.
- ATEC 102: Anesthesia-Related Anatomy and
o This course will review the specific anatomy and physiology for anesthesia. This includes: the autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, airway anatomy and evaluations, vascular access, regional anesthesia and more.
- ATEC 105: Basic Pharmacology for Anesthesia
o This course will cover the basics of pharmacology, as well as anesthesia specific medications. This includes: drug classifications, indications, contraindications, mechanism of action, recommended dosages and delivery methods, drug calculations and safe medication administration.
- ATEC 106: Anesthesia Machines, Medical Gases
o This course will examine basic anesthesia machine: components, functions, operation, troubleshooting and safety. Medical gases, regulations, distribution systems and trace gas scavengers are also covered.
- ATEC 108: Clinical Monitoring
o This course will cover the theory and application of clinical monitoring. Topics include ECG (all ACLS rhythms), noninvasive monitors, invasive monitors, troubleshooting and application.
- ATEC 110: Critical Care Procedures:
o This course will cover the theory and application of the critical care procedures used in anesthesia. Topics include: advanced airway management, surgical airways, invasive line placement, regional anesthesia, asepsis, critically ill patients and indications/precautions for each.
